Underdrain Failures

Water Process Equipment Warranties

Are the Warranties for Water Process Equipment Worth Anything?

Imagine buying a brand-new house, financing it for 30 years, and in year 3, the roof falls in — I’d dare say you’d be upset for having to pay $10,000’s to fix it!

Wouldn’t it be the same for your hometown to build a new water treatment plant, finance it for 30 years, and in year 3, the filter floor blows up? Who ends up paying for that? You, as well!

WHY IS THIS?

So why is it that water process equipment companies get away with only a 1- to 2-year warranty when the facility must last 30+ years? Because they can and do, which encourages planned obsolescence, and also gets that high-profit service department to work!

Worse, a company selling folded sheet metal filter underdrains now claims to offer an extended, 5-year warranty-however, this seemingly never makes it into the contract documents! This sham bait-and-switch tactic has unfortunately compelled folks to design and install these tack-welded, sheet metal assemblies, which have resulted in catastrophic failure and expensive, long-term operational problems.

We Believe In Delivering a Filter System That Will Last 100 Years!

Instead, we at ORTHOS believe in delivering a filter system that will last 100 years, not 10-20 (if you can get that far with sheet metal or plastic block). Orthos’ reinforced concrete underdrain is locked with rebar into the filter sidewalls and floor–it’s part of the civil structure and going nowhere anytime soon. Remember that Orthos has NEVER had an underdrain failure at our monolithic filter installations.

LIFE CYCLE COST WINNER, EVERY TIME

Remember Orthos’ HUGE life cycle cost benefits – At the end of the filter’s life cycle (~25 years), in contrast to a complete plastic block or folded sheet metal underdrain overhaul, nozzles are simply replaced potentially saving $Millions.
